Finger Food For Thought

Michael tells us that our hands represent our relationships to others...our right hand shares our knowledge and wisdom; our left hand, our power and love. The fingers also have meanings. Our thumbs represent our fathers and male authority figures; our index fingers, our mothers and maternal figures. Third fingers are grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, uncles, close cousins. Fourth fingers, our significant others. And our pinky fingers connect us to our community.

So, it's not surprising that we put wedding rings on the fourth finger of the left hand these days. We're gifting our power and love to our beloveds. In centuries past, when marriages were arranged, rings were worn on the third finger, welcoming the new person to be family.

Injuries are also telling. Last week, I banged my pinky pretty hard and it still hurts...may have a hairline fracture. Of course, I'm a bit frustrated right now trying to find the right roommate. Coincidence? I think not....
