Antibiotics DO NOT kill viruses

There is a video going viral by an ObGyn named Geoffrey Cly telling people that there are two antibiotics that CURE COVID 19. Although this man is supposedly an MD (though not a virologist or epidemiologist), he is touting the same two medications that Trump was mentioning days ago: hydroxychloroquine sulfate and azithromycin and one very limited French study.

I would Love to believe this, but every doctor and nurse I know in CA, Washington, New York, Arizona, the UK and Australia are trying this with VERY limited success. That first medication is not an antibiotic. It is hard on the liver, kidneys and retinas and should not be taken lightly.

It’s a rheumatoid arthritis/ malaria /lupus drug. If there is a run on it, people with RA in this country who need it and can’t get it, like one of my best friends, will be crippled and unable to function and become more of a burden on our health system. Also, antibiotics DO NOT kill viruses.

The most these drugs can do is mitigate the pneumonia and other infections that attack the body when it’s very sick with the virus. I think this doctor is being very irresponsible.

Hopefully, these medications can bring some relief and support and help some people fight off the virus on their own, but we don’t know that yet. And drug companies need time, if so, to ramp up production.
