Walnuts and Honey

Michael: We are frequently asked about the health benefits of various foods. Something even more useful is to eat certain foods in combination with one another. An example of food combining is to eat walnuts with honey.

Walnuts are a good source of antioxidants, omega-3's, folate, biotin, copper, manganese, and molybdenum. They protect against prostate and breast cancer, increase fertility and heart health, and improve brain function if eaten regularly.

Honey (if local honey is consumed) alleviates allergies, soothes coughs and colds, heals the skin and scalp of wounds and burns and also boosts memory.

If taken together, you get the additional benefits of reducing anemia, lowering hypertension, reducing headaches and supporting the entire gastric system.

As with all food medicinals, walnuts and honey are not for everyone. Walnuts and honey are not best suited for those with herpes, nut allergies, or diabetes; but for those who are interested the recipe is simple: pour enough local, organic honey over a pound of organic walnuts to coat the nuts. Seal in a container and refrigerate for 2 days, then consume 2-7 walnuts per day
