Corn represents survival
Corn/Maize medicine: Corn literally represents Survival to us instinctively. As a food that stores readily through the winter, having Corn on hand was often the difference between making it through the winter in good health or not. It was as essential to ancestors in the Western Hemisphere as rice was to those in the East.
Corn is not only a good source of fiber and fat; its carbohydrates provided warmth and energy in the cold. And eaten along with beans also provided all necessary amino acids. It’s high in magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc as well as antioxidants so bolstered the immune system as well.
This was especially important before the advent of year round grocery stores and reliable heaters.
Nowadays, ironically, in countries like the US, corn is often avoided as too high in carbs and considered more of a food for farm animals or a treat at the movies . But your instincts see and smell corn and instantly relax and feel like everything is going to be all right. Decorate with some for the holidays and notice the relaxation and good cheer.
