Something we all have a tendency to forget is that our attention actually increases our experience of whatever we are focusing on. That is not only metaphysically true, but true in the literal, scientific physical world. If you focus only on what isn't working in your life, you can cascade into depression. If you focus on gratitude (even for the few seconds it takes to think of 3 things you are grateful for) you will experience less unhappiness, less depression, and more peace. Try it.
